Privacy Policy

The short version
Your files are processed entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly and the Canvas API. No file data is ever uploaded to our servers. We do not have servers that receive your files. We collect anonymous usage analytics and display ads, both of which require your consent.
Who we are
ConvertOwl (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at convertowl.com. We provide free, browser-based file conversion and manipulation tools.
What data we collect
Data we never collect
- The content of any files you work with.
- File names, file sizes, or any metadata from your files.
- Your IP address (beyond what your browser sends to load the page, which we do not log).
- Any personally identifiable information unless you contact us directly.
Analytics (with your consent)
If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage data, including which tools you use, how long conversions take (in broad buckets like “<5 seconds”), and general traffic patterns. We do not send file names or content to GA4. Events are: tool_used, conversion_completed, conversion_failed, download_clicked.

Advertising (with your consent)
If you accept cookies, we display ads served by Google AdSense. AdSense may use cookies to show you personalised ads based on your browsing history. You can opt out of personalised ads in Google's Ad Settings.
Cookies and local storage
We store your cookie consent choice in localStorage under the key cl_consent_v2. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics and AdSense may set their own cookies (e.g. _ga, _gid). If you decline, no third-party cookies are set.
We also store your theme preference (cl-theme) in localStorage. This is not a tracking cookie and is always set.
How we use your data
- To understand which tools are most useful (analytics).
- To fund the service through display advertising.
Legal basis (GDPR)
For analytics and advertising, our legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You may withdraw consent at any time by clicking “Cookie preferences” in the footer.
Data retention
GA4 data is retained for 14 months (Google's default). We do not store any file data at any point.
Your rights
Under GDPR and similar laws, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and port data about you; to object to processing; and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Since we hold no personally identifiable file data, most of these rights apply only to analytics data held by Google. Contact us at privacy@convertowl.com for assistance.

Children
ConvertOwl is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
