Convert FLAC to MP3 — Lossless to Portable

FLAC is the go-to format for lossless music archiving, but it's not supported by many portable players, car stereos, or streaming platforms. This converter transcodes FLAC to high-quality MP3 at up to 320 kbps using the LAME encoder — preserving as much of the original FLAC quality as possible in the MP3 format. Processing happens locally in your browser; your audio never leaves your device.

How to use this tool

  1. Upload your FLAC file

Drop a FLAC audio file. FLAC files range from 20–60 MB per album track at CD quality; this converter handles files up to 500 MB. Hi-res FLAC (24-bit, 192 kHz) is also supported.

  2. Choose your MP3 bitrate

Since FLAC is lossless, start with the highest bitrate for maximum preservation: 320 kbps is our default for FLAC conversion. For portable devices with storage constraints, 192 kbps is a good compromise. Use 128 kbps for voice recordings to minimize file size.

  3. Convert

FFmpeg decodes the lossless FLAC and encodes it as MP3 using LAME at your chosen bitrate. Higher resolution FLAC (24-bit, 192 kHz) is downsampled to 44.1 kHz 16-bit during conversion.

  4. Download the MP3

The MP3 is compatible with every device: iPod classic, car stereos, MP3 players, Android phones, and any audio application.
