HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It uses the HEVC codec to store photos at roughly half the file size of an equivalent JPEG, with the same visual quality. The trade-off is limited compatibility outside of Apple devices.

Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows or Android?

HEIC relies on Apple-licensed HEVC decoding patents. Windows 10/11 requires a paid codec extension from the Microsoft Store (or the free "HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer" if your device shipped with it). Android doesn't support HEIC natively. Converting to JPG eliminates these compatibility headaches.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

At 85% quality (our default), the quality reduction is imperceptible to the human eye in normal viewing. If you're printing large-format photos or editing the result further, raise the slider to 95–100%. Note that JPG uses lossy compression, so some mathematical precision is always lost — going back to HEIC from a JPG will not recover the original.

Is EXIF metadata preserved?

Our engine processes images at the pixel level. EXIF data (date taken, GPS coordinates, camera model) is not currently embedded in the output JPG. If you need to preserve metadata, use a dedicated EXIF tool like ExifTool after downloading your converted file.

How long does conversion take for large HEIC files?

HEIC decoding is computationally intensive. A 12 MP HEIC from an iPhone typically takes 2–5 seconds in the browser. Pro RAW HEIC files (up to 48 MP) can take 10–20 seconds. A progress bar shows status per file, and all files convert in parallel.
