Does adding page numbers upload my PDF?

No. Page numbers are drawn onto your pages entirely in your browser with pdf-lib. Your document is never transmitted or stored on a server, so numbering a private contract or draft manuscript happens with no copy of the file leaving your device.

Can I start numbering from a specific number?

Yes. Set any starting number you like — useful when a cover page or table of contents shouldn't be counted, or when this PDF continues from another document. The first page takes your chosen start number and the rest increment from there.

Where can the page numbers be placed?

You can position numbers at the bottom center, bottom left, or bottom right, and likewise across the top of the page. Bottom center is the most common choice for reports and books, but corners work well when you want to keep the center clear.

Can I show the total number of pages too?

Yes. Enable the total option to display numbers in a "3 / 12" style, showing both the current page and the total count. This makes it obvious to readers how long the document is and where they are within it.

Will the numbers overlap my existing content?

Numbers are placed in the page margin at the position you choose, so on most documents they sit clear of the main content. If your pages have unusually full margins, pick a position with more empty space or a smaller font size to avoid overlap.

Are the page numbers real text or an image?

They're drawn as real vector text using a standard font, so they stay crisp at any zoom and print cleanly. They become part of the page content rather than a separate layer, and your underlying pages are otherwise untouched.
