How to use this tool

  1. Enter your package name

Type the application ID, such as com.example.app, or paste your Play Store listing link and the ID is taken from it.

  2. Add campaign values

Campaign source is required; add medium, campaign name, term and content as needed. The same case and spacing warnings as the web builder apply.

  3. Check the referrer

Under the link, the decoded referrer shows exactly what your app will read from the Install Referrer API, parameter by parameter.

  4. Copy and test

Copy the link into your ad, email or QR code, or open it to confirm the right store listing loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I track Google Play installs by campaign?

Send people to a Play Store link that carries a referrer parameter containing your UTM values. After install, the Play Install Referrer API hands that string to your app, and the Firebase SDK for Google Analytics records the source, medium and campaign on the first_open event, so installs appear under the right campaign in GA4.

Why is the referrer encoded twice?

The UTM values form their own query string, such as utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc, which then becomes the value of one referrer parameter. Its & and = characters must be encoded so the Play Store does not read them as separate parameters, which is why a space ends up as %2520 in the final link.

Where do I find my app's package name?

It is the id value in your Play Store listing URL, after id= in play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.app. It is also the applicationId in your app's build.gradle file. You can paste the whole listing link into this builder and it extracts the package name for you.

Does this work for iOS apps?

No. The App Store has no install referrer, so campaign parameters on an App Store link are not passed to the app. iOS attribution relies on Apple's SKAdNetwork and AdServices frameworks or on a mobile measurement partner. For a web page that links to both stores, use the Campaign URL Builder instead.

Do I need the Firebase SDK?

For GA4 to report the campaign, yes: the Firebase SDK for Google Analytics reads the install referrer automatically. Without it, your app can still read the referrer string itself through the Play Install Referrer library and send it to any analytics tool you use.
