Yes, often 3–6× larger. HEIC is one of the most efficient lossy formats. A 3 MB HEIC file might produce a 15–18 MB PNG. If file size matters more than lossless quality, convert to JPG instead — it'll be much smaller.
Standard iPhone photos don't use transparency. However, HEIC does support an alpha channel in its specification. If your HEIC file contains transparency (uncommon in camera photos, more common in graphics), our converter will preserve it in the PNG output.
We support the most common variants: heic, heif, heis, heix, and mif1 brand codes, covering virtually all iPhone and iPad photos. HEICS (Live Photo sequences and burst shots) is partially supported — the first frame is extracted.
