How to use this tool
Pick the surface
Choose Instagram Feed (square), Feed (portrait), Story or Reel. Each one draws its own furniture and applies its own caption budget, because a Reel caption is cut far earlier than a feed caption.
Add your creative
Drop in a PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or AVIF image, or an MP4, MOV or WebM video. The file is read straight from your device - it is never uploaded, and the video plays inside the mockup.
Write the caption and account name
Type the handle and caption. The counter under each field tracks your characters against the display budget and turns red at the point Instagram will cut you off, and the preview shows the cut as it happens.
Check the safe zones
On Stories and Reels, switch on safe zones. The hatched bands mark what the progress bar, caption and action rail cover, so you can move a logo out of the way before it disappears.
Export a PNG
Download the mockup as a 2x PNG or copy it straight to the clipboard. For a video, the PNG captures whichever frame is showing, so pause where you want it first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does Instagram cut off a caption?
In the feed, Instagram shows roughly the first 125 characters and hides the rest behind "more". Reels cut far earlier, around 80 characters, because the caption competes with the audio row and action rail. This tool applies both budgets and shows you the cut where it lands.
What size should an Instagram post be?
Square posts are 1080 by 1080 pixels. Portrait posts are 1080 by 1350, which is the 4:5 ratio that occupies the most vertical screen in the feed. Stories and Reels are 1080 by 1920. The mockup switches ratio automatically when you change surface.
Why do I need safe zones for Stories and Reels?
A Story reserves roughly the top 14 percent for the progress bar and profile row and the bottom 35 percent for the reply box and, on an ad, the call-to-action. Reels take the bottom third and the right edge. Text placed in those bands is covered by Instagram's own interface on a real phone.
Can I preview a video, not just an image?
Yes. Drop in an MP4, MOV or WebM and it plays inside the mockup at the correct aspect ratio, muted and looping. The PNG export captures whichever frame is on screen when you press download, so pause the video where you want the still first.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your browser and held as a local object URL for as long as the tab is open. The PNG is rendered from the page in your browser too. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is nothing for us to store, log or leak.
Is this an official Instagram tool?
No. It is an independent mockup that redraws the layout so you can judge your own creative and copy. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram or Meta, and it uses its own drawn icons rather than their brand assets.
