H.264 at CRF 23 (our default) produces excellent visual quality for most content — indistinguishable from the source at normal viewing distances. Screen recordings, phone videos, and standard camera footage all look great. For professional video production, you'd typically use a dedicated tool like Handbrake with finer controls.
MOV is Apple's QuickTime container format. While VLC and modern browsers support it, many native Windows apps, Android devices, and web players don't. The video inside a MOV is often H.264 or HEVC (which MP4 also uses), so conversion is usually fast because only the container needs re-muxing — not the video stream. However, some MOV files use ProRes or Apple-only codecs that require full re-encoding.

Yes. The audio is re-encoded to AAC at 128 kbps, which is transparent quality for typical speech, music, and ambient audio from phone or camera recordings. The audio and video are kept in sync.
Yes. iPhone screen recordings are saved as MOV (HEVC codec). Our converter handles HEVC-in-MOV and re-encodes it to H.264 in MP4. FaceTime recordings are similarly supported. Note that HEVC decoding is more CPU-intensive than H.264, so these conversions take a bit longer.
